I think that this biography told much of Allan Poe's life. I think it's sad that his wife, his mom and his god mother died though. I also found out that he wrote many poems and most of them were terrifying and sad. I liked this biography because like i said it told much of his life. -Karl Bumanglag
It seems to me that Edgar Allan Poe experienced a series of mainly unfortunate events. I think this because, with both of his parents deaths happening with him at such a young age, being taken in by John Allan was probably a strange experience for such a young child. With him losing opportunities at two schools due to lack of funds, he was probably disappointed. Soon after being expelled from the University of Virginia, his step mother dies. Later getting a job for Southern Literary Messenger and marrying Virginia seemed to bring out a little bit of happiness for Allan Poe. But later sadness had come once again into Allan Poe's life when Virginia dies, followed by his own death after a two heart-breaking years of being a widower, Poe died in 1849.
You see, while Allan Poe did have a small happy time in his life, it seems to me that his distressed life inspired some of his best poems. "Much of Poe's best work is concerned with terror and sadness." I think his best work is, "The Tell Tale Heart." In that short story, Allan Poe really gets under your skin. He wrote in such detail that you can feel like you had witnessed the killing of the old man.
To summarize, I think that the biography clearly explains where he got his inspiration for his writings.
Edgar Allen Poe's biography definitely is inspiring. The events he went through in his life are inspiring and depressing. Having lost so many people in his life, writing was the only way he could let out his feelings of loneliness and depression. His poems are very transparent and let you notice the emotion behind the text. His writing is very different and unique. -Patrycja Pajdak (:
