An unnamed narrator opens the story by addressing the reader and claiming that he is nervous but not mad. He says that he is going to tell a story in which he will defend his sanity yet confess to having killed an old man (SparkNotes).

The symptoms of the protagonist in the beginning of the story were paranoia. It was that because in the beginning of the story he was afraid of the old man’s eye. A symptom of paranoia is escalation of natural vigilance. That means being scared and he was scared of the old man’s eye. In the end of the story the mad mans condition turned into schizophrenia. When the police men came he began to hear the dead man’s heartbeat which nobody else can hear. A symptom of schizophrenia is hearing things that nobody else can hear. The mad man ended up admitting to the murder he committed

I think that the protagonist suffers from paranoia, and schizophrenia. In the beginning of the story he shows symptoms of paranoia. Paranoia is being afraid of things that are harmless. This relates to the story because the protagonist is afraid of an old mans eye and the eye is harmless. the protagonist states the eye was deviled. Toward the end of the story the symptoms show that the protagonist suffers from schizophrenia. schizophrenia is when you hear things that aren't there like when the protagonist hears the dead old mans heart.

In my opinion, the narrator shows signs of paranoia. The narrator is able to care for himself and the old man. He also forms coherent thoughts but once he feels threatened by the old man's eye his delusional views begin. After he kills the old man and begins to hear the old man's heartbeat, his auditory hallucinations begin. The narrator admits to killing the old man which shows that he is capable of knowing right from wrong which most schizophrenics would not be capable of doing.

ReplyDeleteI think that the narrator is most likely in the category of paranoia. I believe this because the narrator is very able, but is just simply crazy, can care for himself, and the old man, but he just chooses to be mad, because there is something obviously something wrong with the narrator. When the old man is sleeping, and when the narrator goes into his room everynight to check if his one eye is opened or not, and if he sees that his eye is open, he goes into a mental state of mind, and eventually kills the old man. When the narrator does so, he thinks that he can the old man's heart beat, but it's really the narrator's heart beating. He begins to get antsy in front of the officers inspecting his home, and he can't take it any longer' so he confesses to the officers of his crime. Paranoia patients can do this, they can tell them selves from doing something that they believe is right, and something that paranoia patients will do wrong. According to "schizophrenics Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia. Grolier Online, 2012. Web." They can't tell right from wrong.

DeleteI feel that the narrator in the Tell Tale-heart has paranoia. One of the symptems of paranoia is escalation of natural vigilance which means to be frightned, which also explains why the narrator is afraid of the old mans eye. As the story esclates the narrator ends up killing the old man because of his hatred tword his eye. After burring the body under the floorboards he states that he can he the heart beat of the old man which also relates to a symptem of schizophrenia whcih is to not know what is real and what is just your imagination.

I think the narrator has paranoia. I think this because, he has the symptoms of that disease. Which are being paranoid. He is paranoid because, he is scared of the old mans eye. So he kills the old man ,just because of his eye. Then he hides the old mans dead body under the floor boards, at his house. He later then starts hallucinating. He hallucinates by hearing the old mans heart beat.

I think that the narrator in "The Tale-Tell Heart" has paranoia. The narrator loves the old man and takes care of him, but his state of mind goes into a delusional state. The narrator hates the old mans eye a lot, paranoia patients have a lot of hatred towards things. The narrator goes into the old man's room late at night to see if his eye is open, paranoia patients work on the hated attributes of a person. He eventually kills the old man because his state of mind can't handle the delusions. The hearing of the old man's heartbeat after his death by the narrator is an auditory hallucination which is another symptom of paranoia.

I believe that the narrator in the " Tell-Tale Heart " suffers from Paranoia. The symtoms for this illness consist of beliefs that someone is being persecuted by someone else, having delusions and having a lot of hatred and anger towards others. In the story the narrator has a lot of hatred towards the old man only because of his "Evil Eye". Later, he ends up killing th man and placing him under the floor boards. He then thinks he hears a heart beat which can also be a smytom of his illness.

Schizophrenia is a disorder of psychic functions. For example, they might express sad ideas in happy ways. Symptoms of this illness include thought disorder, inappropriate emotional expressions, loss of social interests, and loss of boundaries self and no self. In the book “The Tell-Tale Heart” the narrator doesn’t having schizophrenia because he doesn’t have weird emotional expressions or no social interests. Paranoia is when someone has an unfounded belief that one is being persecuted by others. It’s when someone has a great deal of anger and hatred. In the book the narrator has paranoia because he has beliefs that the eye is cursed and that is what is making him mad. Later he kills the old man because he is mad about him eye. Paranoia is the illness the narrator has.

I think that the narrator in the book " The Tell-Tall heart has an illness of Paranoia. Paranoia is when you have false beliefs, emotional problems, blaming of others etc. The narrator does experience this. He also expierences hate and anger which the narrator shows that in the story. the narrator has no contact with the outside world witch is related to paranoia. I think that toward the end of the book the author does have the illness of schizophernia too because he hears voices and innapropriate behavior. Witch are sighns of schizopehrnia.

When the narrator heard the old man's heart beat, that was another delusion which comes with paranoia.

I believe that the narrator in the story "The Tell-Tale Heart" has paranoia. He doesn't have Schizophrenia. That's because he doesn't have a disorder of physical function. It states that "
ReplyDeleteThe symptoms of schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, thought disorders, loss of boundaries between self and nonself, blunted or inappropriate emotional expressions, socially inappropriate behavior, loss of social interests, and deterioration in areas of functioning such as social relations, work, and self-care." The narrator is not bipolar and doesn't have weird emotional expressions. On the other hand, he does have paranoia. Paranoia is when you have unfound beliefs, doesn't like people, has a strong hating on everything ect. The narrator hates the old mans eye. He believes the eye is "cursed". He kills the poor old man because he doesn't like his eye. That's why the narrator has paranoia.

In my belief that the narrator in "The Tell-Tale Heart" has a case of paranoia. Having paranoia causes natural vigilance. Natural vigilance as in being careful for possible danger. I am convinced because the narrator is frightened of the old man's eye. Even though he took much care for the old man and respected him, the narrator soon kills the old man from the delusions and the anger/hatred for things. Once it happens, he starts to hallucinate. The issue of hallucinating, he hears the old man's heartbeat even though he died. It's a symptom of schizophrenia.

In a short story titled The Tell-Tale Heart by Poe, the narrator has a disease which urges him in composing a plan to kill an old man. As the narrator says, “The disease had sharpened my senses – not destroyed – not dulled,” (1). This man believes this disease, possibly paranoia, which is a “characteristic of a subtype of schizophrenia,” (Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia), helps him hear things from the underworld and heaven. Hallucinating or hearing things is a symptom of schizophrenia. Paranoia makes people delusional or makes them believe something other than the reality. The narrator thinks this old man’s eye is creepy and gives him the chills, he therefore murders the man to rid of that eye. Towards the end, the narrator hears the “thud” of a heart and wrongly believes it to be the old man’s heart when it is his own.

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder involving breakdowns in the relationship between emotions, behaviors and thoughts. Also when people have schizophrenia they can tell what is real or unreal, and lose the contact with reality. Paranoia is another mental condition where delusions of jealousy and exaggerated self importance occur. Some symptoms of paranoia are being stressed, having anxiety, depression, and bitterness. The protagonist in my opinion has schizophrenia and paranoia. He shows his breakdowns about his thoughts because he kills an old man just for his dull blue eye. The protagonist also shows the emotion of being stressed out because he is obsessed with the old man and his odd looking eye. Those are both symptoms that occur in schizophrenia and paranoia, so that's why the protagonist has both conditions.

DeleteSchizophrenia is a mental disorder that makes it hard to tell the difference between what is real and not real, have clear thoughts and have normal emotional responses. Symptoms of Schizophrenia are delusions that include paranoia and auditory hallucinations. This disorder may also cause disorganized thinking with speaking and lack of emotional intelligence. Paranoia on the other hand is a thought process believed to be greatly influenced by anxiety or fear. I do believe that the protagonist has both Paranoia and Schizophrenia. As I said Schizophrenia is a disorder that makes people crazy and they begin lost contact with real life and what is going on around them. The protagonist believes to think that the old man's eye is the reason the old man cannot live anymore. The protagonist also does not show normal emotional responses which is another possibility of Schizophrenia. Aslo the protagonists fears of the old mans eye which is a sign of Paranoia. That's why I believe the protagonist have both o those disorders.

DeleteIn the short story "The Tell-Tale Heart" the protagonist has a disease referred to as schizophrenia. This disease has a few symptoms, but I will only refer to 2 of them. The symptoms are paranoia and hallucinates. Paranoia is a feeling of anxiety or fright. Hallucinations are felling that something is real, but aren't real because it is just imaginary. In the short story, the protagonist shows that he has the symptom of hallucinating because he says to us in the beginning of the short story that he can speak to God and the "Under World". Then, Then the symptom of paranoia is shown in the story because the end when the protagonist believes that he can hear the old man's heart beating, but it was his own because he was very nervous. In a way, It would technically be alright to say that the protagonist of this short story has both paranoia and schizophrenia disorder.

DeleteI belive that the narrorator is suffering from paranoia. I think this because the symptoms are an unrelenting mistrust and suspicion of others, even when there is no reason to be suspicious. Also people with paranoia are always on guard, believing that others are constantly trying to demean, harm, or threaten them. These generally unfounded beliefs, as well as their habits of blame and distrust, might interfere with their ability to form close relationships.are always on guard, believing that others are constantly trying to demean, harm, or threaten them. People with this disorder Cannot see their role in problems or conflicts and believe they are always right. Also doubt the commitment, loyalty, or trustworthiness of others, believing others are using or deceiving them. The narrorator shows these symptoms during the story.

DeleteIn "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe I believe that the narrator suffers from both paranoia and schizophrenia. I believe this because paranoia is," a state of mind characterized either by delusions of grandeur or by an unfounded belief that one is being persecuted by others, or by both." (Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia ).
ReplyDeleteParanoia is also a characteristic of a subtype of schizophrenia known as paranoid schizophrenia. People with this condition have many auditory delusions. The protagonist said that he heard all things from heaven and hell, he was hearing voices. He had symptoms of delusions, hallucinations and bizarre behavior which made him very nervous because he thought he heard the heart beating of the old man, but it was really his own. These are examples of why he had both paranoia and schizophrenia.
